Description

Prior to Senate Bill 458 (now Arkansas Act 649), military parents who lived on a military installation in Arkansas had the flexibility to choose which school their child would attend. SB 458 allows military parents, whether living on or off a military installation, the same flexibility for their child; to choose the school they should attend, even when they do not live in the area. Children eligible under SB 458 include those who are the dependents of 1) uniformed service member on active duty, 2)surviving spouses 3) Reserve component member in specific circumstances, or a 4) veteran returning to civilian status. Parents or guardians using this provision of Arkansas law are responsible for transporting their child to and from the nonresident district school.
