Ensure Extracurricular Access Final Legislation
When competent private instruction or homeschooling is provided in Iowa, students may dual enroll in public schools pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 31, Section
299A.8 Dual enrollment. According to this section, "If the child is enrolled in a public school district for dual enrollment purposes, the child shall be permitted to participate in any academic activities in the district and shall also be permitted to participate on the same basis as public school children in any extracurricular activities available to children in the child’s grade or group." This includes, but not not specify, JROTC.
There is no notification deadline if a family chooses to homeschool under the Independent Private Instruction option, thus, military families have as much time as they need to complete the notice.
