Uniform Services & Reemployment Rights Act Final Legislation
Maryland became the 48th state to enact state employment protections in 2024 under legislation sponsored by Senator Michael Jackson and Delegate Edith Patterson. The law protects the employment of Maryland residents serving in the guard or reserve component in a neighboring state when they are ordered to active duty. Additionally, the law added military spouses to the individuals protected under the state's supplement to the Service members Civil Relief Act, allowing them to terminate various contracts upon notification of an activation, deployment or PCS move.
