Ms. Willette became New England region liaison in 2023. Prior to joining the DLSO, she served as director of the Maine Veterans' Cemetery System, director of communications for the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services, and senior legislative aide in the Maine State Legislature. Ms. Willette currently serves in the Air National Guard.

Purple Star Schools Program Final Legislation
Chapter 228 of the laws of 2021 establishes a Purple Star Schools Program administered by the Department of Education to recognize school administrative units that provide strong services and support for military-connected students and their families. The law also provides for enrollment in a specific public school or school program by a dependent of a member of the Armed Forces who has received military orders to relocate to Maine, including a virtual school. The law further provides for in-state tuition continuity for service members, spouses and dependents of active duty sponsors who are assigned to duty out of the state at the University of Maine, the Maine Community College system and the Maine Maritime Academy.
