Authorized New Mexico to become a member of the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.

On February 5, 2026, Governor Lujan Grisham signed SB 50, enacting the Social Work Licensure Interstate Compact in New Mexico, amending the scope of social work practice, and amending the NM Social Work Practice Act to provide for state and federal criminal history background checks.

New Mexico's law on Advance Enrollment requires districts to allow military families that will be relocating to a military installation in New Mexico pursuant to an official military order to enroll their children in public school prior to their actual physical presence in the school district. It explicitly states that physical presence is not required, that districts shall accept electronic applications and includes lotteries for school choice options and specialized programs. Finally, the law requires school districts and charter schools to provide military families with materials regarding academic courses, electives, sports and other relevant information regarding the public school in which the student wants to be enrolled. In order to fully meet the criteria of this priority, New Mexico could consider including user-friendly information on this policy on a dedicated webpage for military families.

Title 6, Chapter 30, Part 19 This rule provides the criteria and application process for New Mexico’s purple star public schools program, which provides a mechanism for schools to ease the transition of students of military families into new schools by providing academic, social and emotional support to those students or, for schools that do not serve military-connected students, those schools that want to recognize and celebrate military service and the accomplishments of active military and veterans. There is not currently an easily accessible webpage on the state education agency website with detailed information on the Purple Star Schools Program.
