Enacts the Massage Therapy Compact in Nevada.

Nevada's Advance Enrollment law meets the policy implementation enhancements criteria for this priority by explicitly stating that military families may utilize remote electronic means to enroll their children in school prior to arrival. The State enacted AB 185 in 2023, which added charter schools to existing Advance Enrollment policy and created a military-connected student priority for enrollment. Identified area of improvement to fully meet information accessibility enhancements: In order to fully meet the criteria of this priority, Nevada could consider including user-friendly information on this policy on a dedicated webpage for military families.

According to Defense Department-sponsored research, “State Implementation of Four Initiatives to Support Military- Connected Students,” examining the effectiveness of policies that states have enacted to support military-connected students (or in subsequent actions taken), Nevada has been identified as having comprehensive data available at all levels (school, district, state). This data covers both enrollment and achievement and is easily accessible on the Nevada Department of Education data and statistics webpage.

Nevada enacted AB 342 in 2019, which requires each district to designate an employee of the school district to serve as a liaison between the school district and military families within the school district to facilitate the implementation and administration of the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children within the school district. The liaison designated by the school district shall: (a) Coordinate with the liaison appointed pursuant to NRS 388F.030 and other liaisons designated pursuant to this section regarding the provision of information about the Compact; (b) Provide support to parents and guardians of children of military families in understanding the provisions of and protections provided by the Compact; and (c) Take such other actions as necessary to facilitate the proper administration of the Compact within the school district. 2.  Each school district shall ensure that the person designated to serve as a liaison pursuant to subsection 1 possesses knowledge of the Compact and has the necessary training, skills and experience to carry out the duties of the liaison. Nevada's Purple Star School Program is vigorous, stipulates a recertification process, and is specifically included in the State's education budget. Additionally, the Nevada Department of Education website provides comprehensive, user-friendly information on all requirements, application processes, and an up-to-date list of all schools that have received the designation.
